Cardiovascular disease is the single largest killer of both men and women in the developped countries. According to the latest statistics from the American Heart Association, in the US, 7.2 million people have experienced at least one myocardial infarction (MI), and over 5 million people have Congestive Heart Failure (CHF). The current treatments are aimed at aleviating the symptoms and side-effects. Once a MI has occurred, there are currently no therapies that can repair the damaged cardiac muscle. Heart muscle damage is the cause of subsequent serious complications, including arrhythmias that can lead to sudden cardiac death and decreased muscle pumping function that can lead in turn to CHF.
Treating the patients suffering from CHF by regenerating the failing heart muscle is a large unmet medical need.
Cardio³ BioSciences has built strong scientific evidence that the autologous transplantation of bone marrow-derived cardiopoietic mesenchymal stem cells can be effective in improving the cardiac function and consequently improving the quality of life of patients suffering from CHF of ischemic origin.
The complete solution that Cardio³ BioSciences is developing is composed of two products: C-Cure™ and C-Cath™
C-Cure™ is the first bio-therapeutic designed from autologous stem cells committed to a cardiac lineage before implantation.
C-Cath™ is a proprietary catheter that allows for the accurate transmyocardial injection of C-Cure™.
C-Cure™ and C-Cath™ are currently under development and are not approved for human use.
